How to Check if a Dating Site Is Legit: A 10-Point Checklist

Updated 2026-10-13
A polished design does not tell you whether a dating site is trustworthy. These ten questions take a few minutes and show you a lot more.
The checklist
- Company details: are the company name, country and contact address easy to find?
- Pricing: are prices, trial terms and renewal terms shown before you enter card details?
- Cancellation: does the site explain how and where to cancel?
- Refunds: is there a clear refund policy?
- Profile policy: what do the terms say about profiles? Look for wording about fictional, automated or entertainment profiles.
- Privacy: is there a privacy policy that explains what data is collected and how to delete your account?
- Age checks: does the service say it is for adults only and describe how it enforces this?
- Payments: does it use well-known payment methods and a secure checkout (look for https in the address bar)?
- Support: is there a working support contact, not only a form that never replies?
- Independent feedback: what do independent users say? Be careful with reviews that look copied or are written by affiliates, including this site.
How to use the checklist
A service does not need a perfect score to be usable, but missing pricing, cancellation or privacy information are good reasons to be cautious.

Questions
Does a professional-looking site mean it is safe?
No. Good design is cheap. Check the terms, pricing and cancellation steps instead.
Is a free trial safe?
A trial can be fine, but read how and when it turns into a paid plan, and how to cancel, before you enter payment details.
Where can I read a site's terms?
Look for links such as Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and Refund Policy in the page footer or on the sign-up form.
